Viking Futures
Panama Papers and Pirates in Crisis Iceland
Viking Futures Documentary and Book Project
Viking Futures is a documentary film (in post-production) about the power of storytelling in political and economic crises. This ethnographic portrait, shot by anthropologist, Jen K. AlVarez Hughes in Iceland and Denmark from 2015-2016, follows young politicians, folklorists, climate change and queer activists, journalists, tourists, expats, pirates and others during the lead up to and aftermath of the 2016 Panama Papers offshore banking scandal. The films shows how stories from the past impact future imaginings and global political possibilities and often have surprising roots. Look for a new trailer and teasers in late Summer 2023.
